Are You Okay Watching Pro Sports With No Fans?

If you’re a fan of professional sports, are you okay watching games with no fans? After all, fans spend thousands of dollars decorating stadiums, painting their faces, and rearranging their schedules to catch every game. It’s important to note, however, that not all athletes are fans. Tennis player Anthony Rendon, for example, says that watching sports is boring, while NFL quarterback Tom Brady reportedly loves to watch games.

The lack of media also means that fans are not a monolithic group that behave irrationally. Some writers suggest that fan behavior is extraordinary and reflects socialization, upbringing, and culture. For instance, the rape culture and anti-gay ethos in professional sports are expressions of individual upbringing. In addition, pro sports injuries are becoming more severe and less fun to watch.

While sports fandom has its benefits, it’s important to remember that there is a downside to that as well. A growing number of people are more engaged with video games than they are in live sports, which makes pro sports more expensive. In addition, many of these potential audience members don’t have access to the stadiums that they play in. This is especially true for inner-city youth. Many of these children grow up playing on vacant lots and neighborhood courts. The leagues can’t afford to give these kids a chance to attend games.
